Cast Iron Cob­bler with Louisiana Black­ber­ries with Sassy Sauce

  • Cobbler
  • 1 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tsps baking powder
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 cups sugar, divided (1 cup for batter and 1 cup to pour over fruit)
  • 1 stick (½ cup) melted butter
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 12 ozs fresh blackberries
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Sassy Sauce
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Splash of Rum


  • For the Cobbler
  • Heat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 10 inch cast iron skillet.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, 1 cup sugar, melted butter, and milk. Beat well and pour batter into the buttered cast iron skillet. Top with the fresh dewberries. Sprinkle with 1 cup sugar and then pour on 1 cup boiling water.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes. Pour sassy sauce over the top before serving.
  • For the Sassy Sauce
  • Whisk together the sweetened condensed milk and the heavy cream until combined and warm in a saucepan. Spike with rum.
